Discovering your inner intuition

January 26th, 2008 Natalie Roberts 1 comment

I came across this video today and had to share it.  It reminds me of myself several years ago when I used to go to the bookstore in search of the ultimate book that had all the answers.  Then one day I simply realized that all the answers I seek are within myself, and the tools to obtain these answers were all around to begin with.

I started journaling back when I was nine, I believe.  The posts were rather simple.  Not too thought provoking.  Then around sixteen I wrote about my boyfriends.  When I was eighteen, I think I finally broke the gap when I was journaling.  I started to really write about myself and my interaction with the world.  It was a tranformational experience and still is today.

I have also found that walking is very therapeutic.  It helps me gain clarity on my thoughts.

So tell me, what are some of your ways to discover intuition?

Happy Fourth of July!!!

Today we celebrate freedom. For whatever that means to you, and whatever it means to your politics, your psychology, your heart, your mind, your concept of community… Freedom is always available in your own mind. Take it, hold it close, and give that same gift to the others that surround you.

We plan on being at the Crimson Anchor Tattoo today. The last time we attended one of their parties, we had an absolute BLAST. You can find their Myspace page and directions here.

I love this video. There are a ton of versions of it floating around on YouTube. Happy 4th!! Hope to see you there!

Naked Chicks and Beer, part Deux.

March 19th, 2007 Brian Roberts 2 comments

Wow. What a blast. This weekend we rounded up the posse and headed on out to the Captain Phil’s 2nd Annual BBQ, Block Party, and Art Show at the Crimson Anchor Tattoo parlor. Wow. Wow. Wow. Why aren’t there more events like this?

Mud wrestling, shopping cart jousts, beer, BBQ, hot tattooed and pierced honies., art, and death metal being played by some kickin’ bands… What more could you want on a perfect Tampa Saturday afternoon? The weather was absolutely gorgeous.

Want some pics? Yeah, I thought so.

lame.jpg

This was one of the first photos I managed to snag. This was one of the girls behind the counter, and I must say that she rocks. She had shorts that said “Rancid” on them. Too cool. She was demanding girls to wrestle her in the mud pit. In a word, adoreable. And yes, that lip tattoo reads”LAME.” Apparently, she was bored one day. (She said if you strech your French accent skills a bit, one could argue that it is pronounced “Lah-may,” but she was just as bubbly and happy with “lame.”) And no, I didn’t get to wrestle her. Pity. Maybe next time.

The CHAIR!

Here is the chair. I *almost* climbed right into it and got the tattoo I have been wanting. Yeah, I am a wuss. I flaked out. Maybe I will get one if Lame’ will let me wrestle her. And it better be Jello.

Counter

As far as an art show goes, this was an excellent venue. There was plenty of wall space. Natalie’s art was right near the entrance, always a coveted spot to have your stuff placed.

Natalie cutting mats

This is Natalie cutting some last minute mats for some prints she had for sale. She is always doing something artistic. And yes, I have to post this little clip of Mikey rocking out to some pleasant death metal sounds. Enjoy!

Okay. That’s enough pics for tonight. There’s a ton more to share and I will be throwing them on the site tomorrow… There’s just too many cool things to not share. If you get a chance, visit The Crimson Anchor or visit them on their Myspace page. They are some very good people doing some great things to support the local art scene.

Child Prodigy Paints God

Was just browsing GooTube and came across this interesting CNN tidbit. Although I generally have a distaste for most commercial media news outlets, this story caught my eye.

Its about a young girl who paints her idea of God. I’m open to all sorts of spirituality, and that’s not really the point of me posting this. Its just to showcase the sheer talent of someone so young.

Digital Ethnography

Words are a very inefficient method of communication, as far as accuracy is concerned. Connotation, cultural bias, etc. Our first use of communications technology were the collection of grunts that eventually became the spoken language. Since humans are visual creatures, we also learned to communicate via the use of visual representation of objects. You know. Pictures. And eventually came text. Text worked well. And now, we have added smilies. And video. WOW.

Now, this is probably a slight bastardization of the history of human communication. Just work with me here for a moment. Think of the impact that art has on someone. It usually conveys an emotional sense that is somewhat greater than words can express on text. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?

We’re no longer communicating via simple text or a strange vocabulary of grunts. We’re communicating visually, audibly, tactilely in a thousand ways every day.

The concept of a Digital Ethnography is being explored by Kansas State University to create an idea that the internet is a communication playground for everyone that cares to tap into it, and that communication is the ultimate equalizer in the race to promote open and honest discussions about the nature of the human psychology. And using this information, maybe we might just be able to build a better tomorrow.

Visit the site, there’s some interesting things going on there showing the future of Web 2.0.

Personally, I believe a new language is evolving right under our noses.
